Some of our favorite movies and TV shows have given us unforgettable LGBT characters who achieved strides in acceptance and representation for the community.

Culled from a longlist of hundreds, movies considered for the list prominently feature gay, lesbian, trans, or queer characters; concern itself centrally with LGBTQ+ themes; present its LGBTQ+ characters in a fair and realistic light; and/or be seen as a touchpoint in the evolution of queer cinema. Every movie here is Certified Fresh.

While still few and far between, LGBTQ characters in movies can be hit or miss or downright offensive-- these fifteen are the best.
